Frequently Asked Questions

  • Students in grades 2–12 who play a classical instrument and reside in the Greater Bloomington-Normal area are eligible to apply.

  • The scholarship supports students studying classical instruments (violin, viola, cello, piano).

  • Students do not need to have an instrument to apply. Through the Share the Music Program, The Pratt Music Foundation can assist with access to an instrument if needed.

  • Yes! A sample application is available on the Apply page so families can review the questions in advance.

  • No. There is no fee to apply.

  • Yes. Homeschool students are welcome to apply as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

  • Most applications can be completed in 30–45 minutes, depending on how much information you prepare in advance.

  • Online submission is preferred. If you are unable to apply online, please contact us for assistance.

  • You must complete the application in one sitting. Reviewing the sample application beforehand can be helpful.

  • Once submitted, applications cannot be edited. Please review your responses carefully before submitting.

  • Recommendations should be completed by a music teacher or another non‑parent adult who is familiar with the student’s musical development and commitment.

  • No. Referrals must be completed by someone other than a parent or guardian.

  • That is fine, as long as all required materials are submitted by the application deadline.

    Before you apply, make sure you have confirmed who will supply your recommendations.

  • Applications are reviewed by the Pratt Music Foundation committee and selected based talent, motivation, and financial need.

  • Yes. Each student must submit a separate application.
